Strength

I am pleased to announce that in 2025, I am releasing my fourth full-length album, fifth if you include my last EP, named Strength.

Strength is the spiritual successor to Icebergs.  What came out was a very pleasant surprise.  I very specifically wanted Strength to be a considerably more upbeat album.  Icebergs was an incredibly difficult album to write, it’s quite emotional and cathartic.  You can hear it through some of the themes, despite some of the more uplifting tracks on both albums.

Strength is an emotional uplifting album, and while to a degree cathartic for me to write, it was much easier to produce and concepts flowed out of my fingers.

It was really fun to write this album.  The album was initially written backwards for half of the album, and then the final half of the tracks were placed where they made sense.  It just seemed to be the way it came together.

If Icebergs is a cinematic expression of high art and loss, and Techknow is the experimental sound of stepping into a post lockdown world, then Strength is a pop celebration of exuberance and confidence. S. James Curtis – Designer

As I was writing Strength, the album seemed to take on a theme – video games as the euphemism for life, with the ice cream theme being the treat/prize at the end of the game.

I took the ice cream photo whilst living in the south of England in 2019.  I took this while on a road trip through the Lake District in the north of England with my friends John and Dave. We had stopped for ice cream and everything just fell into place for this photo.  Little did I know 5 years later, it would be the cover of this album.  I remember that weekend fondly, and I saw an area of the UK – and more – that I had always wanted to visit.

The rest of the artwork was inspired by Jumpman, Pitfall, Pitstop and Donkey Kong Jr – games I played a lot growing up.

Here’s the track listing:
